We’ve tried recycling plastic bottles in lots of ways: from creating walkie-talkie’s for our kids, to putting flowers in them and using them to store excess gravy in, we’ve turned all creative in order to do our bit for the planet.
However, high street retailer Boots has trumped us all by finding a particularly useful second-life for over 68,000 plastic bottles: their eco-tights.
Becoming one of the first retailers to bring tights made from bottles to the high street, these innovative tights are just as comfortable and durable as regular nylon tights.
To make each pair of high-quality tights, around four plastic bottles are shredded into microparticles, melted down and spun into yarn.
The yarn is then knitted to produce the super-soft, 80 denier tights. Pretty impressive, huh?

Sarah Crawley, Wellness Director at Boots UK told Yahoo UK:
“Introducing tights made from plastic bottles is another stepping stone in our commitment to being more environmentally friendly.
“We’ve noticed a real shift in our customers’ attitudes to sustainability and we’re really excited to be offering them alternative products that are kinder to the planet.
“These tights will be a new staple to my everyday wardrobe, they’re super soft, great quality and really comfortable.”
In short: you’ll be doing good, feeling good and looking good.
Though you can now fill your boots with the tights online, they’ll only be arriving in store on 16 March, and come in sizes small through extra-large.
Help to save the planet one step at a time - literally.
