And so it begins. Awards season officially kicked off with the National Board of Review Awards Gala in New York last night.

The likes of Kristen Stewart, Emily Blunt, Jessica Chastain and Maggie Gyllenhaal ditched their Christmas jumpers and shimmied into an array of glam gowns for the occasion, giving us an idea of the type of frocks we can expect to see hit the red carpets this year.

And judging by these looks, prints are out and block colours are in. All four fashion-forward stars donned dresses in a single hue, proving that simple styles are often the most effective.

The always elegant Emily Blunt oozed class in a blue lace Elie Saab dress that highlighted her trim waist and made her red locks pop.

The mum-of-one, who was at the event in celebration of her crime thriller “Sicario” teamed her frock with strappy metallic sandals and swept her hair up into a chic bun.

Jessica Chastain oozed Hollywood in this emerald green number. The 38-year-old “The Martian” star donned a satin floor-sweeping dress, which nipped in at the waist and boasted an asymmetric one-shoulder design.

It offset her strawberry blonde locks perfectly and definitely made the actress stand out from the crowd.

Kristen Stewart may be known for her edgy fashion sense, but the Chanel muse proved she scrubs up well in a LWD (little white dress). The “Clouds Of Sils Maria“ actress hit a fashion high note in the semi-sheer number, which was both chic and elegant.

Complimented by backless monochrome heels and tousled hair, the 25-year-old star showed she’s a fashion force to be reckoned with.
