Billy Porter reigns Oscars 2020 red carpet in Kensington Palace-inspired skirt
Billy Porter has been crowned best-dressed throughout awards season this year so it was only fitting that the actor donned a regal look by one of the royal family’s go-to designers at the 2020 Academy Awards.
Further cementing his sartorial winning streak, Porter reigned the red carpet in a headline-worthy ensemble by Pippa Middleton’s wedding dress designer Giles Deacon.
Inspired by Kensington Palace, the ensemble featured a 24-karat gold feathered bodice with a billowing skirt emblazoned with Roman statues to finish - an ode to the walls of the ‘Cupola Room’ at the royal residence.
A pair of impressive Jimmy Choo platform boots and a bespoke bag by Judith Leiber Couture earned the look a spot in fashion columns across the world.

“I thought, ‘The Oscars are kind of a royal event,’” Porter’s stylist, Sam Ratelle, told The New York Times.
“I love the idea of Billy being this kind of messenger sent from the gods.”
Porter’s latest look is just another flex of his unwavering fashion influence, as the Pose star is here to challenge gender norms on the red carpet.

In fact, it was at his debut Oscars ceremony back in 2019 that Porter rose to dazzling fashion heights all thanks to a tuxedo-dress by Christian Siriano.
If that isn’t enough to convince you that Porter is dominating the fashion charts, the US Broadway darling wore a similar suit-dress hybrid at the 2020 Grammy Awards.
Proving he isn’t one to take the dress code lightly, the Alex Vinash ensemble took over three months and 465 hours to create courtesy of its 4,000 Swarovski crystals (and 12-metre train).
According to his stylist, tonight’s Oscars ensemble is just one of Porter’s looks with an outfit change on the agenda so make sure to stay tuned until the after-parties kickstart.
