The big-brand sun cream not living up to its SPF claims
When it comes to sun screen, as with anything important for our health, we tend to play it safe by buying well-known brands.
But after testing a bunch of leading high-street sunscreen brands, Which? discovered that not all of them are all they’re cracked up to be.
After testing 14 sun creams in a lab, 13 passed the site’s SPF and UVA tests – leaving one; Avon Sun+ Multi Protection Moisturising Sun Lotion SPF30 (150ml), which failed to stand up to the consumer choice site’s tests.
Costing £10 (£6.67 per 100ml), it wasn’t exactly the cheapest cream out there, either, yet it performed the worst and failed to live up to its SPF claims.
When asked if the company would like to comment, Avon said it was was confident in its own testing, that it followed internationally-recognised protocols and was conducted by external laboratories.
So before you fork out for the most expensive sun cream in the hope it’ll keep you the most protected, maybe instead you should give the cheaper brands another chance.
