Beyoncé books first ever black photographer for Vogue’s September issue, reports say
For monthly glossy magazines, the September issue is the most important in the calendar.
September is basically the ‘New Year’ of fashion: it rings in the new autumn/winter season, signals a period of reinvention, and gives fashion magazines a chance to make a statement with the best cover stars they can afford.
This is why Vogue US have reportedly chosen Beyoncé for their upcoming September issue, and according to Huffington Post, the issue will contain a ton of groundbreaking ‘firsts’.
Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour gave Beyoncé ‘unprecedented control’ over the cover of the upcoming September issue, sources told the publication.
And Beyoncé‘s first move? Hiring the first ever black photographer to shoot a cover in the publication’s 126-year history.
The music mogul has reportedly chosen Tyler Mitchell, 23, to photograph her.
Mitchell is known for his raw and earthy photos of people of colour, and has already shot campaigns for Marc Jacobs and Givenchy.

“The reason a 23-year-old black photographer is photographing Beyoncé for the cover of Vogue is because Beyoncé used her power and influence to get him that assignment,” a source told Huffington Post.
The publication report that Anna Wintour has signed a contract relinquishing all control over the cover shoot to the singer, from the photos to the captions, written by Beyoncé herself.
According the the source that is ‘familiar with Vogue’s editorial process’, Wintour typically prefers to hire known photographers with traditional experience, making Mitchell a curveball.
Beyoncé last posed for the cover of the fashion bible back in 2015, when she didn’t even give an interview.
We can’t wait to see the issue, which is due out in the first week of August.
