BAFTAs 2018: A-list guests invite activists in support of #TimesUp movement

To mark the UK’s first public demonstration against sexual harassment in the entertainment industry, guests at the 2018 BAFTAs brought activists as plus-ones to the star-studded ceremony.

Actress Andrea Riseborough graced the red carpet with co-founder of UK Black Pride, Phyll Opuku-Gyimah.

While Gemma Arterton attended the ceremony with Eileen Pullen and Gwen David, two of the 187 women who staged a three week walk-out from Ford’s Dagenham branch back in 1968. They staged a protest after learning that they were earning 15 percent less than their male counterparts.

And inspirational guests aren’t the only show of support for the ‘Time’s Up’ movement, as a large majority of guests donned all-black to stand in solidarity while some proudly wore badges in support of the cause.

Gemma Arterton invited Eileen Pullen and Gwen Davis to the BAFTA ceremony. The women were just two of 187 female workers who staged a three-week walk-out from Ford’s Dagenham branch in 1968 after learning that they were paid 15 percent less than male employees.
