Baby given fitting name after being born on solar eclipse day
The large majority of parents struggle with what to call their baby. Do you go for something traditional? Creative? A family name? There’s a lot to decide.
But not for one couple from South Carolina, who decided to name their newborn Eclipse, in honour of Monday’s solar eclipse.
Freedom and Paul Eubanks welcomed their daughter into the world at 8.04am, weighing 6 pounds, 3 ounces and measuring 19 inches in length, a Facebook post from The Greenville Memorial Hospital, where the baby was born, read.
According to the post, the decision to name their child Eclipse was a last-minute one. The Eubanks’ were going to give their tot the moniker Violet – but felt like calling her Eclipse was meant to be after she arrived two weeks early during the 2017 solar eclipse.
“I kind of felt like it was meant to happen, to have her on this day,” Freedom told ABC News.
As for a nickname? Eclipse is destined to be called ‘Clipsey’ for short.
Eclipse wasn’t the only baby born yesterday. Some ten other women gave birth and each was gifted by the hospital with a special eclipse-themed onesie that sported emoji-esque suns wearing glasses.
The Eubanks aren’t the first parents to be inspired by the situation their child was born into. Back in 2015, a child from Manchester was named Megan after arriving in her dad’s Renault Megane. And rumour has it Brooklyn Beckham was giving his name after being conceived in the New York City borough.
