There is just something about the food in Hayao Miyazaki’s films that makes me salivate. I dream of the day where I can reach through the screen while watching a Ghibli film and slurp down the mouthwatering Ramen, and stuff my face with fresh steamed dumplings.

The hand drawn Studio Ghibli animations have a love for the details, whether it’s a captivating story, lovable characters or dramatic music, the movies are like nothing you’ve ever seen. I’ve only recently got into the Japanese film studio’s work, I’m unbelievably annoyed by the fact that I slept on these films for so long.

But it’s the food - so detailed and remarkably true to life - that captivates me. So here are some recipes to indulge your Ghibli appetite.

Ponyo: Ramen

Ponyo is a young and overeager goldfish princess who escapes home to become human and finds a friend in a young boy along the way.

“MMM It’s Ham” yells Ponyo as she gobbles down the simple ramen soup with ham.

Recipe for Weebs has created a lovely version of the recipe that doesn’t feature instant noodles - yay to not having a bowl full of MSG and salt! As the Tumblr proclaimed: “You just made yourself some Miyazaki Noodles. Are you proud? You should be, you basically made art’

In the film, older sister Satsuki prepares for a bento box for her family, including her younger sister Mei.

Anna The Red has explored the dish in great detail on her blog. From the little Japanese anchovy (Mezashi) to the perfect peas its a pretty spot on interpretation of the dish.

During her family’s move to the suburbs, a sullen 10-year-old girl (Chihiro) wanders into a world ruled by gods, witches, and spirits, and where humans are changed into beasts.

After a long first day in the Spirit World Lin, one of the workers at the bathhouse who is assigned to be Chihiro’s caretaker, eat Sweet red bean buns. These buns are one of the most popular Chinese desserts and are perfect treat.

China Sichuan Food has the perfect recipe do get doughy, light buns (you can even buy the red bean paste if you’re feeling lazy.

In Kiki’s Delivery Service it is a tradition for all young witches to leave their town and live on their own for a year to train themselves to become a better witch. With no special talents or skill other than flying on a broom, she starts her delivery business in a city by the ocean.

Kiki goes to the house of an old lady to pick up a package to deliver and ends up helping them bake a pie for her granddaughter’s birthday.

Anime Recipes have created the recipe for this yummy looking fish pie, with the little pastry fish it’s a real standout dish.
