73-year-old Lauren Hutton becomes Vogue's oldest cover star

Lauren Hutton has become the oldest women to ever grace a cover of Vogue — fronting not one, but three covers of Vogue Italia‘s new “Timeless Issue.”

The fashion star has modeled for decades, revolutionizing the industry as the first model to demand a contract and therefore better pay for women.

At 73 years and 11 months old, Hutton’s new record beats out Tina Turner’s by just months — the singer having fronted Vogue Germany in 2013 at 73 years and four months old.

“This is most important,” Hutton told WWD of her latest photoshoot. “(The cover) has made me feel most useful. I’ve been thinking about it for a while, but it took Vogue Italia’s courage to make it true. This is a cover that can change society because it shows a woman who is vibrant, attractive, who still laughs, and who for the first time is a woman my age.”

Shot by photographer Steven Klein, each cover highlights the model’s natural beauty and elegance not forgetting a dash of sass. Wearing Valentino throughout the shoot, the first cover shows Hutton in a tailored black dress serving cheeky side-eyes into the lens. In the second she wears a green collared coat with lipstick in her hand having scribble across her mirrored reflection and in the final frame Hutton stands in a green skirt, a sheer bra and a brown fur coat sitting loosely on her shoulders — there’s a slight smirk on her lips.

“(It is) important that a cover be more than just a photograph, it needs to reflective of our times and challenge and inspire,” Klein added. “A huge reason why I wanted to shoot the cover of the ‘Age Issue,’ was to be able to show a new take on how a woman over 70 could look. That is why I was so excited to shoot Lauren Hutton for the cover. She is (73) and still sexy. She also embraces her age. She has had no cosmetic work done to her face or body.”
