The shortest day of the year, the Winter Solstace, is right in the middle of party season on 21st December. Reduced daylight and cold weather affects everyone’s mood and energy levels but some people can experience serious mental health problems at this time of year. Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) causes persistent low mood and lethargy and can be life-altering for sufferers during the winter months. If you are struggling with feelings of depression then contact your GP who may refer you for talking therapies, light therapy (where you use a light box that mimics sunlight to regulate your mood) and sometimes medication.
