From the old fashioned toothpaste method to slathering your face in apple cider vinegar, a number of us will try anything to combat our blemish-prone skin once and for all.

Now, it seems aesthetician Nayamka Roberts-Smith – who goes by the Twitter username LABeautyologist – might finally have the answer to our skincare woes.

The beauty junkie regularly shares tips and tricks on her YouTube channel and her latest secret to combatting spots, has since gone viral.

The ’60-second rule’ is a skincare tip she gives clients to help them get the most out of their expensive cleanser collection, as Roberts-Smith believes it takes an entire minute to really allow the ingredients to work.

According to the beauty guru, a large number of people only wash their face for 15 seconds (guilty!) and by simply upping the duration of lather time by a further 45 seconds, the cleanser will “soften the skin and dissolve sebum blockages better”.

In turn, this will supposedly improve your skin’s “texture and overall evenness”.

But does it work?

A quick skim of the #60SecondRule hashtag on Twitter brings up hopeful examples with social media users praising the “life changing” technique:

We don’t know about you but we’ll be setting our alarm clocks one minute earlier tomorrow to try it out for ourselves…
