These are the 25 healthiest cities in the world, according to new study
For Britons, ‘health’ isn’t the first thing that springs to mind when you mention Amsterdam – forever associated in British minds with stag dos and other nightlife activities.
But the Dutch city come out top in a list of the healthiest cities in the world, compiled by rentals site Spotahome – thanks to low obesity rates, high life expectancy and high air and water quality.
London ranks at a lowly 40th – and Edinburgh at a pitiful 71st out of 80.
Spotahome based their ranking on publicly available health data – including sunshine hours, life expectancy, obesity rates, air quality and holiday days.
Spotahome says, ‘It’s easier to stay healthy in a city with healthy social habits – places where clean air, fresh food and high-quality exercise facilities are valued.
‘But it’s much harder in cities with high levels of pollution, too many fast-food restaurants and not enough green space.
‘We created a healthy city index that scores over 80 locations across the world. Each city is ranked based on how well it performs across 10 distinct, health related factors.’
A detailed account of their methodology is available here.
