'Young Jack Sparrow' debuts in new Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar's Revenge trailer

Ahaaaa. So now we know what Javier Bardem’s ghostly sea-farer is so cross about… he’s not, as was previously thought, a ghost-pirate, but a pirate catcher. Who is now a ghost.

And it’s all because of the young Jack Sparrow.

The swaggering pirate not only evaded capture from Salazar back in the day, but sent his pursuer down to Davy Jones’s locker.

And now he’s back from the dead to exact his revenge of the title, and there will be ghost sharks, no trousers, a bit of betrayal, and a monkey along the way.

It’s not known who is playing the young Depp – whether it’s a young look-a-like or a CGI rendering, a la ‘Rogue One’ – but there’s no listing of an actor playing the part on the film’s IMDb page, so the mystery remains for now.

This latest clip for ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge’ has revealed most about the story, and could be a ripping yarn if it’s been handled well by directing duo Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg, the Norwegians who helmed the celebrated drama ‘Kon-Tiki’ in 2012.

We also get a proper look at Brenton Thwaites’ new hero Henry and Kaya Scodelario’s Carina – who narrowly avoids the gallows – as well as the return of Geoffrey Rush’s Hector Barbossa, who is faced with an impossible choice.

Having cost a reported $320 million to make, the stakes are high for Disney, but the last one ‘On Stranger Tides’ made over a billion dollars, so there’s precedent for it to clean up.

It’s due out in the UK on May 26.
