Wright starts work on 'Ant-Man'

Edgar Wright has revealed that he's started work on a big screen version of Marvel Comics' superhero 'Ant-Man'.

The 'Shaun of the Dead' and 'Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World' director unveiled some very early test footage of his new project at San Diego's Comic-Con event.

In it, the diminutive, size-shifting superhero is seen taking out two shadowy secret agent types in his red and black suit.

“It's action-packed,” he said. “Ant-Man will kick your a**, an inch at a time.”

Wright has been attached to a potential 'Ant-Man' project since at least 2007, but now appears to be making progress, co-writing the film with 'Attack The Block' and fellow 'Adventures of Tintin' scribe Joe Cornish.

He has said that the film won't be an out-and-out comedy but that it will be 'more of a full-on action adventure sci-fi film but with a comedic element'.

So far, there's no word on his cast.

But it's thought that Wright's version of 'Ant-Man', a superhero alias taken on by several characters in comic books over the years, will mix a story of 60s scientist Henry Pym, the first 'Ant-Man' who discovered a chemical with size-changing properties, and a modern day version of the superhero.

In other Marvel news, the studio has announced that it has another three major releases in the pipeline.

The will be sequels for both 'Thor' and 'Captain America', called 'Thor: The Dark World' and 'Captain America: 'The Winter Soldier'.

Marvel also confirmed a planned film version of the 'Guardians of the Galaxy' comics. The less well-known series features a group of cosmic heroes including a plant-man who can regenerate, a galactic policeman and its leader, Rocket Raccoon, a marksman space raccoon.
