Warner plans McAfee biopic

A biopic of troubled anti-virus magnate John McAfee is in the works at Warner Bros, according to reports.

The studio has bought up the rights to 'John McAfee's Last Stand', an article which appeared in tech magazine Wired, written by Joshua Davis.

The Hollywood Reporter says that John Requa and Glenn Ficarra, the team behind films such as  'Crazy, Stupid, Love', 'I Love You Phillip Morris' and 'Bad Santa', will adapt the article for the screen, as well as produce and direct the project.

McAfee's story is almost stranger than fiction.

The man behind the software that bears his name - who was also a former NASA programmer - was at one time worth in the region of $100 million, but went on the run late last year in Belize, where he was being accused of the murder of his neighbour, Gregory Viant Faull, a fellow expatriate.

He fled to Guatemala, after becoming convinced that the police in Belize were trying to kill him, but was found thanks to a geo-tagged picture of him which appeared on Vice magazine's website.

There he claims he faked a heart attack to buy him time to be deported to the US rather than being deported back to Belize.

He was never charged with a crime, and is now living in Oregon.
