The Mummy trailer awakens an ancient evil
‘The Mummy’ is here and its creepier than ever.
Tom Cruise looks well and truly screwed as he awakens an ancient evil in the latest trailer for ‘The Mummy’. Heading up a special forces crew that gets a bit too close for comfort with an old Egyptian tomb, it looks as though Cruise faces an evil presence as old as the pyramids themselves.
And she really means business.

“This isn’t a tomb,” says Egyptologist Jenny Halsey. “This is a prison.”
The trailer goes to great lengths to establish the story of Ahmanet – once set to become the next queen of Egypt… but eventually betrayed due to her dalliance in dark arts, and secured (still alive) into her own sarcophagus.
Chilling stuff, and it seems she holds a grudge.
“Because of your actions, this ancient power has returned,” explains Russell Crowe’s Dr. Jekyll. And she’s got a few ancient Egyptian tricks up her sleeve.
Here’s the official synopsis:
“Tom Cruise headlines a spectacular, all-new cinematic version of the legend that has fascinated cultures all over the world since the dawn of civilization: The Mummy.”
“Thought safely entombed in a tomb deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient princess (Sofia Boutella of Kingsman: The Secret Service and Star Trek Beyond) whose destiny was unjustly taken from her is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension.”
“From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters.”
And we get an impressive glimpse of the country-hopping action.
There’s explosive scenes in the Middle East and even a chase scene involving a very British-looking ambulance. Clearly, Tom Cruise and co. need a bit of help tackling Ahmanet – likely where Dr Jekyll comes into it.
But will ‘The Mummy’ bring anything new to the table?
There’s plenty of action set pieces and a few very familiar-looking visuals – that swarm of locusts and the old face-in-a-sandstorm very reminiscent of recent Mummy movies. But it looks as though there’s plenty of new bits to enjoy.
And Sofia Boutella as the Mummy? That’s just genius.
‘The Mummy’ stars Tom Cruise, Sofia Boutella, Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson, Courtney B. Vance, and Russell Crowe.
Alex Kurtzman directed the film based on a script by Jon Spaihts and Christopher McQuarrie.
‘The Mummy’ heads to cinemas on 9 June 2017.
