New on Sky Cinema/NOW in July 2022: New movies and TV shows, from 'Spider-Man: No Way Home' to 'The Baby'

One of the most memorable superhero movies of recent years leads the archive offering on Sky Cinema UK in July, as Spider-Man: No Way Home hits the platform alongside horror reboot Scream and Oscar-winning tennis biopic King Richard — just in time for Wimbledon.

In terms of new TV, Martin Freeman and Daisy Haggard return for a third series of parenting comedy Breeders while Michelle De Swarte experiences an even more horrifying new arrival in the bizarre-sounding limited series The Baby.

On the movie front, Tim Roth stars as a man abandoning his family in the wake of trauma in Sundown, while Sally Phillips leads the sex-positive drama How to Please a Woman.

New movies on Sky Cinema and NOW in July 2022

Sundown (2 July)

Tim Roth and Charlotte Gainsbourg are privileged siblings on holiday in Mexico with their families when they receive tragic news. Their mother has passed away, causing the family to rush home immediately.

Roth's character, though, pretends to have lost his passport in order to extend his vacation and hide from the turbulent events happening back home. After receiving strong reviews on the festival circuit last year, director Michel Franco's movie is arriving in the UK as a Sky Original.

How to Please a Woman (8 July)

From writer-director Renée Webster, this comedy follows Sally Phillips as a woman who learns to listen to her own desires and encourage others to do the same when she establishes an all-male cleaning business staffed by gorgeous men.

Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank (22 July)

Loosely inspired by Blazing Saddles, this animated martial arts comedy follows a beagle voiced by Michael Cera as he is trained to be a samurai by cat sensei Jimbo (Samuel L. Jackson). The all-star voice cast also includes Ricky Gervais, Michelle Yeoh, George Takei and Blazing Saddles director Mel Brooks.

Who Killed the KLF? (2 July)

Controversial electronic music duo KLF — made up of Bill Drummond and Jimmy Cauty — were boundary-pushing figures in the 1980s and 1990s. They made headlines with controversial stunts, including burning a million quid and firing machine gun blanks at the Brit Awards. This documentary uses previously unseen material to piece together the group's bizarre story.

Sky Arts Summer Book Club Summer Reads Special (6 July)

Andi Oliver and Elizabeth Day, along with literary podcaster Simon Savidge, return to open their book club once again with a series of reading recommendations for the summer months.

The Baby (7 July)

Parenthood is terrifying in this new comedy-horror limited series starring Michelle De Swarte. She plays a woman in her thirties who doesn't want kids and is baffled by her friends who do. However, she finds herself confronted by a baby at a remote cabin and soon discovers that there is more to the manipulative new arrival than meets the eye.

Killer Siblings S3 (7 July)

Some of the most shocking criminal families in history take centre stage in this documentary series, which explores horrifying crimes perpetrated by bad brothers and scary sisters.

The Toys That Built the World (7 July)

Some toys feel like they have been around forever and are ubiquitous in just about every household. This series explores the fascinating stories behind those creations and the innovative figures responsible for bringing the likes of Frisbees and Slinkies to the world, as well as the people who transformed Mattel into a global empire.

Roswell 75 (10 July)

Invisible Pilot (11 July)

Ari Mark and Phil Lott helm this three-part documentary looking at the life and mysteries of pilot Gary Betzner, who appeared to have taken his own life in the 1970s.

Breeders S3 (13 July)

Estranged parents Martin Freeman and Daisy Haggard continue to try to manage their lives as parents in this darkly comic look at modern life. Freeman's Paul has now moved out of the family home, while Haggard's Ally is experiencing early menopause.

Suggs: My Life Story (13 July)

The charismatic frontman of Madness brings his one-man show from theatres to TV screens, exploring his musical career and his status as an undeniable showman.

Roy Orbison Forever (16 July)

Via the use of archive footage and performances, this special delves into the iconic career of music legend Roy Orbison. Among the interview subjects deployed to explore Orbison's legacy are the late Tom Petty, Bono and Elvis Costello.

Big Cat Country S1 (17 July)

Wildlife filmmakers Nathan Pilcher and Sam Davies spent months observing warring lion prides in Zambia to put together this documentary. The duo provide an intimate perspective on the challenges faced by these creatures, with younger lions threatening the territory presided over by ageing dominant males.

An Unknown Compelling Force (18 July)

In 1959, nine experienced hikers were found dead in Russia's Ural Mountains. A subsequent investigation determined that a "compelling natural force" was responsible for their mysterious deaths. This doc explores the questions and possible answers around what is now known as the Dyatlov Pass incident.

Lost Gold of the Aztecs (18 July)

Three families attempt to discover the treasure of Emperor Montezuma and break a centuries-old curse by discovering lost Aztec artefacts in the USA.

What on Earth S4 (18 July)

Earth's mysteries are examined from the air in this series, which utilises expert insight alongside innovative satellite imagery to delve into weird and wonderful phenomena on our planet.

Ugly Beauty (19 July)

This documentary seeks to challenge the commonly expressed belief in art circles that modern art has lost its ability to conjure and appreciate beauty. Critic Waldemar Januszczak fronts this exploration of the ways in which unique beauty can be found by those who know where to look for it.

The UnXplained S3 (19 July)

Star Trek icon — and now space traveller — William Shatner returns to front a third series of his series delving into mankind's mysteries. This time around, the investigative eye of Shatner and the show's experts is turned upon cases of possession, disappearances and UFOs.

The South Bank Show (20 July)

Melvyn Bragg continues to front TV's most famous arts programme, with Helen Mirren serving as the guest for this opening episode. Before the iconic show returns, it also presents the South Bank Sky Arts Awards for 2022 on 13 July.

FBI S4/FBI: Most Wanted S3/FBI: International S1 (21 July)

Procedural series FBI is back — along with its two spin-offs — on Sky in July. Focusing on the New York office of the FBI, the main series deals with numerous major cases. Most Wanted turns its eye to the fugitive task force, responsible for tracking down high-value criminal targets, while new addition to the franchise International explores bureau agents who travel the globe to tackle crime and terrorism elsewhere.

Surreal Estate S1 (30 July)

Tim Rozon leads the cast of this Canadian series as a real estate agent whose speciality is the sort of haunted houses that would send most of his professional colleagues running in the opposite direction. The show was initially cancelled after its first season, but anyone who enjoys this first run will be able to comfort themselves with the news that a second season is arriving after all.
