New on Prime Video UK in July 2022: The best movies and TV shows arriving next month

In the headline offering of this month's Prime Video UK slate, Chris Pratt plays a Navy SEAL at the centre of a conspiracy in new military action series The Terminal List. There's less action, perhaps, in play elsewhere, with James May fronting a new documentary show from Italy.

On the original movie front, John Cho leads father-daughter road trip movie Don't Make Me Go and Billy Porter — who played the Fairy Godmother in Prime Video's take on Cinderella last year — makes his directorial debut with Gen Z romcom Anything's Possible.

New movies coming to Prime Video UK in July 2022

Don't Make Me Go (15 July)

After premiering at the Tribeca Film Festival in June, this road trip dramedy is arriving on Prime Video. John Cho plays a single dad who discovers that he has a terminal illness and subsequently decides to take his teenage daughter on a cross-country journey in search of her estranged mother. Naturally, there's plenty of time on the drive for familial bonding as Cho's character tries to fit a lifetime's worth of advice into one trip.

Love Accidentally (15 July via Freevee)

This romcom delivers a classic genre setup, with Brenda Song and Aaron O'Connell playing workplace rivals competing for a promotion at their advertising firm. They both suffer break-ups and, unbeknownst to Song's character, she accidentally sends a text opening up about her heartbreak to his number. A phone-exclusive relationship develops, but everything threatens to crumble when they finally meet and discover exactly who they've been bonding with.

Anything's Possible (22 July)

Directed by Billy Porter in his first effort behind the character, this is a coming-of-age movie aimed squarely at Gen Z. The protagonist is trans teen Kelsa (Eva Reign) and follows her relationship with a cisgender classmate, which causes controversy in the school. The cast also includes Hamilton standout Renée Elise Goldsberry.

Prizefighter: The Life of Jem Belcher (22 July)

Daniel Graham gets behind the camera for this tale of a young boxer riding to the top of the noble sport of pugilism at the end of the 18th century and beginning of the 19th. Matt Hookings takes on the title role as prodigy Jem Belcher and also penned the script.

Ray Winstone plays Belcher's trailer, while Russell Crowe is also in the cast as a rival fighter.

New TV coming to Prime Video UK in July 2022

The Terminal List S1 (1 July)

Based on the novel of the same name, this thriller series — directed by Antoine Fuqua and Ellen Kuras — casts Chris Pratt as Navy SEAL James Reece. He survives an ambush perpetrated against his entire elite platoon and must then piece together what happened, with hazy memories and conspiratorial forces seemingly working against him. Constance Wu, Riley Keough, Taylor Kitsch and Jai Courtney also star.

Forever Summer: Hamptons S1 (15 July)

This docusoap — think TOWIE or Made in Chelsea — is set against the affluent backdrop of the Hamptons on Long Island and follows a diverse set of characters from different backgrounds as they meet while working at a seaside restaurant. Expect lots of sun and sea as these people try to build a memorable summer.

James May: Our Man in Italy (15 July)

Fresh off the back of his previous travel series exploring Japan, presenter James May now heads on an odyssey through one of his favourite countries. He journeys to famous landmarks as well as shining a light on slightly less famous elements of Italian life and culture. First look images tease him wearing medieval armour, helping to varnish a violin and meeting football great Giorgio Chiellini.

Paper Girls S1 (29 July)

With Stranger Things unveiling its fourth season over on Netflix this summer, Prime Video is conjuring its own slice of 1980s nostalgia with this adaptation of a graphic novel. It follows four girls who become caught in the crossfire between warring factions of time travellers while carrying out their paper round. They're soon transported into the future and face a dangerous battle in order to make their way back to their own time, with the help of their grown-up selves.
