Robert Pattinson confirmed for new ‘Batman’ trilogy
Warner Bros have approved Robert Pattinson as the new Batman, and he will star in a trilogy of films as the beloved comic-book character, the first of which will be directed by Matt Reeves and will start shooting later this year.
There have been a number of rumors about just how hotly contested the audition process was for Pattinson. Deadline not only confirmed that R-Patz is the new Batman, but also alleged that the Harry Potter and Twilight star went up again X-Men: First Class’ Nicholas Hoult for the part, and that both Brits had to put themselves on tape.

However, Variety’s Justin Kroll, who actually broke the story of Pattinson being lined up for The Batman earlier this month, took to Twitter to dismiss this suggestion, writing, “Shortlist my a**.”
But what we do know now is that Pattison will be taking on the role of the Caped Crusader, and with Pattison aged just 33 the films will almost certainly take a look at Batman in his formative years.
Pattison has got a busy few months ahead of him. Not only is he already hard at work on Tenet, Christopher Nolan’s brand new film, which is being shot in various countries across the globe, but his latest film The Lighthouse just debuted at Cannes, too.
Very little is known about Matt Reeves’ new take on Batman, although recent rumours have alleged that both the Penguin and Catwoman will be villains in the film.

Earlier this year Reeves did provide some precious insight into his vision for the blockbuster, explaining to The Hollywood Reporter, “It's very much a point of view-driven, noir Batman tale. It's told very squarely on his shoulders, and I hope it's going to be a story that will be thrilling but also emotional…it's going to allow his character to have an arc so that he can go through a transformation.”
The Batman will be released on June 25, 2021.
