New TV shows coming to Paramount+ in June 2023
iCarly S3 | Episodes 1 and 2 drop on 2 June, then weekly
When a reboot of Nickelodeon classic iCarly was first announced in 2020 with OG cast members Miranda Cosgrove, Nathan Kress, and Jerry Trainor aboard, fans were shocked to say the least. We’re now three series into this unexpected revival and the show is going from strength to strength, bucking the trend of other, less successful nostalgia trips.
Written specifically for the generation who grew up with the original series, the revival follows child web show sensation Carly Shay (Cosgrove) as an adult trying to figure life out and - in a neat meta twist - bring back her show in a world where everyone and no-one is a star. Also, #Creddie is a thing now - brace yourselves.
Queen of the Universe S2 | Episodes 1 and 2 drop on 3 June, then weekly
The world’s most talented drag queens go head-to-head and battle it out for global domination in season two of Queen of the Universe. The Spice Girls’ very own Scary Spice, Mel B, joins RuPaul’s Drag Race judge Michelle Visage, Grammy nominee Vanessa Williams, and drag superstar Trixie Mattel on the ‘Pop Diva Panel’ this time out. Together, they will be judging the international contestants as they show off their talents, putting on spectacular musical performances in front of a live studio audience and returning host Graham Norton.
Claremont: A Killer Among Us | Boxset drops on 6 June
During a 14-month period between January 1996 and March 1997, three young women — Sarah Spiers, Jane Rimmer, and Ciara Glennon — went missing after visiting nightspots in Claremont, a wealthy suburb of Perth, Australia. The subsequent discoveries of Rimmer and Glennon’s bodies sparked a twenty year long manhunt to bring their killer to justice, the largest in Australian history.
In this gripping three-part documentary, exclusive interviews with survivors, former police detectives, criminologists, journalists, and the officers who eventually cracked the case, the inside story of just what happened in Claremont is told in full, right up to the case’s staggering conclusion.
Joe Pickett S1 | Boxset drops on 8 June
For All Mankind star Michael Dorman plays the titular game warden in Joe Pickett, a Western drama based on C.J. Box’s popular book series. Set in the fictitious town of Saddlestring, Wyoming - Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone is never far from mind, or indeed sight, here - the show follows Pickett as he tries to protect his family while brushing up against the corruption festering beneath the surface of his new hometown. Beautifully shot and never anything less than compelling, with a second series already on its way now’s as good a time as any to saddle up and join the ride with this one.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds S2 | Episode 1 drops on 15 June, then weekly
A welcome return to the alien-of-the-week episodic storytelling that characterised Gene Roddenberry’s Star Trek: The Original Series, the first series of Strange New Worlds was a hit with new and dyed-in-the-wool Trekkies alike. Following Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount), Number One (Rebecca Romijn), Science Officer Spock (Ethan Peck), and the rest of the crew of the U.S.S Enterprise in the years before Captain Kirk commanded the bridge, the series is - true to the franchise’s founding ethos - dedicated to exploring new worlds and civilisations.
The first trailer for the second series promises plenty more intergalactic adventuring ahead, with Paul Wesley’s James T. Kirk returning and the prospect of a live-action/animation cross-over with Star Trek: Lower Decks to get excited for. With a third season already on the way, Strange New Worlds is living long and prospering. Hit it!
