New Emma Watson Movie Makes Just £47 At The Box Office

Emma Watson’s a long way from Hogwarts (and its blazing box office takings).

Her latest movie, ‘The Colony’, earned just £47 at the UK box office during its opening weekend, it has emerged.

- 10 lowest-grossing movies of this decade so far
- Affleck is the ‘most murderous’ Batman ever
- Skarsgard reveals insane diet for Tarzan

There are some caveats to the tiny figure, however.

It opened in just three cinemas, as a token gesture, at the same time as a streaming release across on-demand platforms.

But still, that’s more than a couple of empty seats.

Based on true events, the movie is set in Pinochet-era Chile, and finds Watson’s character Lena trying to rescue her husband Daniel, played by Daniel Brühl, from imprisonment in a cult-like religious colony.

Directed by Florian Gallenberger, it also stars Michael Nyqvist as Paul Schäfer, a former Hitler Youth corporal who ran the Colonia Dignidad, or the Dignity Colony, where instances of sexual abuse, torture and detention were later discovered after Augusto Pinochet’s dictatorship.

It was premiered at the Toronto Film Festival, but appears to have been somewhat buried since then.

Following its premiere, it was battered with a raft of scathing reviews.

Peter Bradshaw in The Guardian called it 'very silly stuff: but of some value as a quasi-historical footnote’, while Cath Clarke in Time Out offered 'read the Wikipedia page. You’ll learn more’.

Watson is just the latest to suffer a gross in the tens of pounds in recent months.

Richard Gere’s ‘The Benefactor’ made just £25, while Keanu Reeves’ ‘Exposed’ made £88.

Her Harry Potter cast-mate Tom Felton also had a similarly humiliating experience with war movie ‘Against The Sun’.

It opened to just £36.
