'Lost Boys' TV series lines up a pilot
A pilot show for a planned Lost Boys TV series has been ordered by US network The CW, it’s been confirmed.
First talk that the classic 80s vampire movie was being developed for a series emerged back in 2016, with The CW developing the show with writer Rob Thomas, but not pushing it through for a pilot episode.
But now it appears to be back on, with Deadline confirming the plans.
While Thomas has been working on a reboot of the show Veronica Mars, Scandal and Grey’s Anatomy writer Heather Mitchell has been working it up, with plans now in place for a pilot episode.
The logline for the series goes like this:
“Welcome to sunny seaside Santa Carla, home to a beautiful boardwalk, all the cotton candy you can eat… and a secret underworld of vampires.
“After the sudden death of their father, two brothers move to Santa Carla with their mother, who hopes to start anew in the town where she grew up. But the brothers find themselves drawn deeper and deeper into the seductive world of Santa Carla’s eternally beautiful and youthful undead.”
Sounds rather similar to the original premise, which back in 1987 saw brothers Sam (Corey Haim) and Michael (Jason Patric) arrive in town with their recently divorced mother (Dianne West).
They too soon encountered the town’s dark underbelly, via Kiefer Sutherland’s heart-throb bloodsucker David and his gang of undead teens.
Director Joel Schumacher had planned a sequel in the 90s, The Lost Girls, but it never gained traction.
But the original became a cult hit, with comic book spin-offs, and then years later two direct-to-video movies, Lost Boys: The Tribe and Lost Boys: The Thirst arriving in 2008 and 2010, sadly to little fanfare.
