Yahoo Movies Jurassic World 2 will be politically-laced, says director
When ‘Jurassic World’ hit cinemas in June of 2015 no one could have predicted what a huge hit it’d be. After a record-breaking run, by the time it left cinemas it had amassed an incredible $1.6 billion which naturally meant a sequel was on the cards.
With J.A. Bayona directing the anticipated follow-up, the question on everyone’s lips is what it’ll be about. After speaking to ComingSoon.net, the story for the dino sequel became a little clearer.
When asked about the pseudo-political narrative and subtext we expect from a ‘Jurassic’ movie, Bayona confirmed the type of thing we can expect.
“Yeah… I think there’s a lot of that in the new Jurassic. I think there’s a lot of possessiveness towards our creations. I think it’s very interesting where the new movie is heading. It’s so different from the other films, it talks a lot about the moment we live in right now. It’s darker… but at the same time, it’s going to be a lot of fun. It’s a blockbuster, you have Chris Pratt, it’s a great adventure, but it’s very interesting the way the film is darker than the other ones.”
The fact we’ll see a much darker but also fun adventure is something fans will no doubt want to see, especially if Bayona can deliver something as great as what Colin Trevorrow did with ‘Jurassic World’.
While comparing to some of his acclaimed movies such as ‘The Orphanage’ and his latest, ‘A Monster Calls’, Bayona described how he takes elements of his films and instils them into future features.
“You need to adapt, you need to know where you are. Jurassic is going to be very different from A Monster Calls or The Orphanage, but they called me because they loved The Orphanage and The Impossible and they wanted me to be leading the new Jurassic. I think you’re going to find some stuff that will remind you of my movies. At the same time, I’m very aware that this is Steven [Spielberg]’s baby and I’m going to take care of his baby as much as possible, knowing where I am all the time.”
So we’ve a better idea of the style Bayona will bring, but what about the dinosaurs? Will they be used as black market weapons, bargaining chips, trained for modern warfare, or simply used to cause chaos?
While we still don’t know detailed specifics of what ‘Jurassic World 2’s’ plot will entail, the chosen director seems a great choice to not only move the franchise forward but also continue with a high octane, stellar quality of its predecessor.
