Jim Carrey slams Louis C.K. over his comments on Parkland survivors

Jim Carrey has slated Louis C.K. in a new painting, following comments the comedian made about the survivors of the Parkland school shooting during a stand-up show.

C.K. has been performing low key sets in recent months, following allegations by a number of women that he exposed himself to them and masturbated.

The star of the hit indie sitcom Louie apologised for his conduct, but his return to the comedy scene so soon after the accusations has been heavily criticised.

And some of his latest material has caused controversy too, including that about the teenagers who spoke out after the massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, in February last year.

17 students and staff members were killed in the shooting, and 17 more were injured when a 19-year-old former student opened fire on the campus.

In leaked audio from the set, he says: “They testify in front of Congress, these kids? What are they doing? You’re young! You should be crazy! You should be unhinged! Not in a suit. You’re not interesting. Because you went to a high school where kids got shot? Why does that mean I have to listen to you? Why does that make you interesting? You didn’t get shot. You pushed some fat kid in the way, and now I’ve got to listen to you talking?”

Carrey has long been a vocal supporter of the survivors-turned-activists who emerged after the shooting, including Emma Gonzalez and David Hogg, and features Gonzalez in the painting taking down C.K.

In it, Gonzalez is depicted as a giant (with the caption ‘drawn to scale’), while C.K. is depicted as tiny and, if you zoom into the picture, naked.

Carrey, as well as appearing in the HBO series Kidding, has been concentrating on his artwork more and more in recent years, predominantly skewering right wing political figures, in particular Donald Trump.

C.K. was also accused of being transphobic with his new material too.

“They’re like royalty,” he said. “They tell you what to call them. ‘You should address me as they/them. Because I identify as gender neutral.’ Okay. You should address me as ‘there,’ because I identify as a location. And the location is your mother’s c***. It doesn’t have to be that nasty, but it can be.”
