'Black Mirror' star Will Poulter quits social media for 'mental health' reasons

Will Poulter, the star of the new Black Mirror movie Bandersnatch, has said that he’s taking a break from social media to better deal with his mental health.

The 25-year-old London-born actor cited ‘recent experiences’ in his decision to step back from Twitter.

“As we all know, there is a balance to be struck in our engagements with social media,” he said.

“There are positives to enjoy and inevitable negatives that are best avoided. It’s a balance I’ve struggled with for a while now and in the interest of my mental health, I feel the time has come to change my relationship with social media.”

While he doesn’t mention any specific incidents, he added ‘This is not the end. Consider it an alternative path’, in a nod to Bandersnatch, which adopts a ‘choose your own adventure’ style plot.

The film has received mostly good reviews, though some have questioned its execution.

The Independent said that the navigation of the plot itself became ‘wearisome’, and pulls the viewer out of the narrative.

The Guardian, meanwhile, called it a ‘meta masterpiece’, noting a ‘profound feeling of satisfaction’ with the pioneering streaming project.

Poulter has previously been seen in movies including The Revenant, Detroit, and The Maze Runner.
