Jason Momoa's Aquaman solo movie gets autumn 2018 release
At last, we know when ‘Aquaman’ will be splashing onto cinema screens.
The Warner Bros/DC solo movie set to star Jason Momoa in the title role with James Wan (‘Fast & Furious 7,’ ‘The Conjuring’) on board to direct, will open in US cinemas on 5 October 2018, Deadline has confirmed.
Momoa debuted the role very briefly in this year’s ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice,’ but will properly introduce the character in DC team-up movie ‘Justice League,’ coming November 2017.
The towering, musclebound actor’s casting in the role obviously goes some way to challenging Aquaman’s reputation as one of the silliest and weediest superheroes of the DC pantheon.
Little is known about the film other than that Momoa will appear as the King of Atlantis alongside Amber Heard as his wife Mera, and Willem Dafoe as Atlantean ally Nuidus Vulko.
Director Wan recently hinted that the film would be a “swashbuckling action adventure… a quest story in the spirit of ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark’ meets ‘Romancing the Stone.’”
All being well, ‘Aquaman’ should be the second DC Extended Universe movie of 2018, as Warner Bros have ‘The Flash’ scheduled to open in March of that year – although that film has had some behind the scenes difficulties, and is currently without a director.
