John Carpenter confirms two ‘Halloween’ sequels will arrive in 2020 and 2021

John Carpenter has confirmed that not just one but two Halloween sequels will be released in the very near future. They also have titles, too, as Halloween Kills will be released on October 16, 2020, while Halloween Ends will arrive a year later on October 15, 2021.

Carpenter, who co-wrote, directed and scored the iconic 1978 original and fully endorsed David Gordon Green’s direct sequel, took to Twitter to post a rather startling video confirming the news of the follow-ups, alongside the caption, “The saga of Michael Myers and Laurie Strode isn’t over.”

Jamie Lee Curtis also took to Twitter to confirm her presence in the films.

Jamie Lee Curtis’ Laurie Strode, who survived both of Michael Myers’ murdering sprees in 1978 and 2018, will be almost certainly be joined in these films by Judy Greer as her daughter Karen and Andi Matichak as Laurie’s granddaughter Allyson.

Well, they should at least be in Halloween Kills. Whether they’ll make it through to Halloween Ends is very much up in the air, especially when you consider the amount of bloodshed in last year’s hugely successful slasher.

The news that there is a Halloween sequel on the way is hardly surprising. First of all, the Blumhouse produced follow-up was very well received by critics, as it scored 79% on Rotten Tomatoes. More importantly, though, it was a smash-hit at the box office, breaking several records as it amassed over $255 million worldwide from just a $10 million budget.

Clearly Blumhouse and Green believe this reaction warranted two immediate follow-ups, and they’ll be hoping to avoid the numerous issues that plagued the endless sequels to the original Halloween.

Production on Halloween Kills is reportedly going to begin this September, while it remains to be seen whether Halloween Ends will be shot simultaneously.
