Third 'Halloween 2' movie will be in cinemas next October

It’s looks like it’s official, we’re getting a sequel to Blumhouse’s take on the Halloween franchise. It was inevitable, following the critical success of the first one, but it does mean that the series’ perfect ending will have to be undermined a little.

Still, we probably shouldn’t be surprised. Not only did the original make more than twenty times its budget back ($255 million worldwide on a $10 million production budget), Jason Blum has been teasing the announcement since the beginning of the month.

But the news goes back even further than that, we first got word that Blumhouse were working on a sequel waaay back in October of last year.

That was when we first heard Danny McBride reveal “talks” about a sequel to the horror smash had already begun.

Speaking to Deadline, the filmmaker said he and David Gordon-Green, the film’s co-writer and director, “definitely have ideas of what we would do [for a sequel]”.

“We hadn’t invested a ton of time on them, but now we’re being asked to figure it out,” McBride added.

“There are definitely talks on whether we will do more of them and we’re just trying to see what best makes sense.”

Of course, as soon as we heard that news, we tried to talk them out of it - partly because this will be the third ‘Halloween 2’ in the franchise (we really hope they call the next one something else) and partly because Halloween 2018 was such a perfect ending for Laurie Strode.

But with Jamie Lee Curtis apparently involved (if Jason Blum’s tweet is to be believed) it looks like we’ll see more from the unluckiest babysitter on the planet in the follow-up to the reboot.

Collider reports that shooting on Halloween 2 will start in the autumn, aiming for an October 2020 release. Just in time for Halloween, obviously.
