British stars win big at the Golden Globes 2019
The Golden Globes 2019 took place on Sunday night and a fair few British stars took home a few gongs.
It was no surprise to see Olivia Colman take home the Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy award for her performance as Queen Anne in The Favourite.
The British actress has earned widespread critical acclaim for the period drama and she beat the likes of Emily Blunt (Mary Poppins Returns), Charlize Theron (Tully), Constance Wu (Crazy Rich Asians) and Elsie Fisher (Eighth Grade) to the win.
Christian Bale won the male equivalent award for his performance as Dick Cheney in the political comedy Vice.
The British actor had gone through quite the transformation for the role as the former Vice President of the United Stars under George W. Bush and it seems it paid off.
Bale took home the award over John C. Reilly (Stan and Ollie), Lin-Manuel Miranda (Mary Poppins Returns), Vigo Mortensen (Green Book) and Robert Redford (The Old Man and the Gun).
In the TV section of the awards, Richard Madden earned his first Golden Globe for his leading performance in Bodyguard.
The Scottish actor took home Best Actor in a TV series – Drama, beating fellow Brit Matthew Rhys (The Americans), Jason Bateman (Ozark), Stephen James (Homecoming) and Billy Porter (Pose).
Ben Whishaw was another British winner after he took home the Golden Globe for Best Performance in a Series, Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television.
The actor earned the award for his role in A Very British Scandal, over Keiran Culkin (Succession), Henry Winkler (Barry), Edgar Ramirez (The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story) and Alan Arkin (The Kominsky Method).
