Church of Satan hails Christian Bale's Golden Globes win
The Church of Satan has paid tribute to Christian Bale after the actor cited Satan as an inspiration for his latest award-winning role.
Bale, who won Best Actor in a Drama at the 2019 Golden Globes for playing former Vice President Dick Cheney in Vice, said in his winning speech: “Thank you to Satan for giving me inspiration on how to play this role.”
The Church of Satan, based in America, responded saying “Satan is a symbol of pride, liberty and individualism… as Mr. Bale’s own talent and skill won him the award, this is fitting. Hail Christian! Hail Satan!”
To us, Satan is a symbol of pride, liberty and individualism, and it serves as an external metaphorical projection of our highest personal potential. As Mr. Bale's own talent and skill won him the award, this is fitting. Hail Christian! Hail Satan! https://t.co/ILuK8TFZXi

The Church followed it up by adding that: “Bale’s Dark Knight era Batman is the best Batman ever.”
Bale’s winning speech was a source of confusion to many Americans who seemed to be unaware of the actor’s British heritage.

Vice had been one of the hot favourites of the night going into the Golden Globes with 6 nominations, the most for any film, but it only picked up one award for Bale. See the full list of Golden Globes winners here.
Bale packed on the pounds once again to play Cheney, saying he ate “a lot of pies” and did neck exercises to gain 40lbs and transform into the U.S. businessman-turned-politician.
This isn’t the first time The Church of Satan has been in the news recently. Back in November 2018, it criticised the Satanic Temple for suing Netflix over copyright infringement for use of a Baphomet statue throughout the series. The Church of Satan criticised the Satanic Temple for “childish PR stunts”.
Vice is coming to UK cinemas on 25 January.
