Golden Globes 2019: Lady Gaga fans not happy after Best Actress snub
Lady Gaga fans were not happy with the Golden Globes result for Best Actress on Sunday night.
That’s because the singer failed to nab the top prize in the Motion Picture – Drama category for her role in A Star is Born, instead, it went to Glenn Close for her stunning performance in The Wife.
Of course, Gaga wasn’t the only actress to lose out in the category as Nicole Kidman (Destroyer), Melissa McCarthy (Can You Ever Forgive Me?) and Rosamund Pike (A Private War) were also nominated but the Little Monsters seemed most upset.
WTF HOW HAS LADY GAGA BEEN ROBBED OF BEST ACTRESS? #GoldenGlobes

No disrespect. I love Glenn Close. But her reaction is all of us when she won best actress over Lady Gaga for #AStarisBorn #goldenglobes pic.twitter.com/dJ0U3BxVqi

Gaga didn’t go home empty-handed though as she won the Golden Globe for Best Original Song for “Shallow” from A Star is Born.
She tweeted her thanks following the ceremony with a picture with her collaborators Mark Ronson, Anthony Rossomando and Andrew Wyatt.
I am so beyond grateful for this Golden Globe & honored to have won it w/ @MarkRonson @Wyattish , Anthony Rossomando and to have sang it with Bradley Cooper. I also could not be happier for Glenn Close winning tonight. She is a true legend and deserves every award. Thank you HFPA pic.twitter.com/Dpw2QNmFD3

“I am so beyond grateful for this Golden Globe & honored to have won it w/ @MarkRonson @Wyattish, Anthony Rossomando and to have sang it with Bradley Cooper (sic),” Gaga said.
“I also could not be happier for Glenn Close winning tonight. She is a true legend and deserves every award.”
Close earned a standing ovation after giving her acceptance speech on the night.
“I’m thinking of my mom who really sublimated herself to my father her whole life and in her 80s she said to me, ‘I feel like I haven’t accomplished anything.’ And it was so not right, and I feel what I’ve learned through this whole experience is that women, we’re nurturers,” she said.
“That’s what’s expected of us. We have our children, we have our husbands, if we’re lucky enough, and our partners, whoever. But we have to find personal fulfilment. We have to follow our dreams. We have to say, ‘I can do that and I should be allowed to do that.'”
The actress has been nominated for 11 Golden Globes in her career so far, but this her first win for a film role. She has previously won Best Actress in a Miniseries or TV Movie in 2003 for The Lion in Winter and Best Actress in a TV Drama Series, in 2007, for Damages.
Gaga previously won the Golden Globe Award for Best Performance by an Actress In A Mini-series or Motion Picture Made for Television, in 2016, for her role as The Countess in American Horror Story: Hotel.
That win earned much attention because of Leonardo DiCaprio’s reaction as she went up to collect the award.
