Disney+ UK September 2022: New movies and TV shows from 'Andor' to 'Hocus Pocus 2'
This year's annual Disney+ Day is taking place on 8 September, with Disney+ UK unleashing a fresh array of new movies and TV in a 24-hour celebration. The latest Marvel outing Thor: Love and Thunder makes its streaming debut on that day, alongside Robert Zemeckis' fresh take on Pinocchio and a limited series about the life of Mike Tyson.

Elsewhere this month, the highlight is Andor — a Star Wars series tracing the rebel career of Rogue One standout Cassian Andor, again played by Diego Luna. There's also the long-awaited sequel to cult classic Hocus Pocus and eye-catching nature documentary Super/Natural, which has James Cameron as a producer and Benedict Cumberbatch on narration duties.
Here's what's heading to Disney's streaming platform this month...
Original movies coming to Disney+ UK in September 2022
Pinocchio (8 September)
Arriving on screens before Guillermo del Toro's stop motion take on the story of the wooden puppet desperate to become a real boy, Robert Zemeckis's live-action version of the animated classic casts Tom Hanks as Geppetto. He's a lonely woodcarver who crafts a small boy, who is given life by the Blue Fairy — played by Cynthia Erivo.
The film's packed ensemble cast also includes Joseph Gordon-Levitt as the voice of Jiminy Cricket and Luke Evans as the sinister coachman.
Thor: Love and Thunder (8 September)
Just a few months after it appeared in cinemas, Taika Waititi's bombastic superhero sequel is set to be available to view at home. The story meets Chris Hemsworth's Thor as he tries to find himself in the wake of Avengers: Endgame, only to be thrown back into action by the arrival of Christian Bale's sadistic villain Gorr the God Butcher and the re-emergence of his ex Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) — who now wields Mjolnir as Mighty Thor.
As has become common with Marvel releases, this one comes bundled with the making-of documentary Marvel Studios Assembled: The Making of Thor: Love and Thunder.
Mija (16 September)
Mexican-American director Isabel Castro's debut movie got huge critical acclaim at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year and was subsequently scooped up by Disney. It follows music manager Doris Muñoz, who works to spotlight Latinx artists and bonds with a singer over the fact they are both the first American-born members of their undocumented immigrant families.
Hocus Pocus 2 (30 September)
Almost 30 years after the original witchy fantasy Hocus Pocus arrived in cinemas, it is firmly ensconced as perhaps the ultimate Halloween cult movie. Step Up and The Proposal filmmaker Anne Fletcher has stepped into the director's chair for this sequel, which brings back Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy and Sarah Jessica Parker as the coven of Sanderson siblings.
The sequel sees high school students forced to join together in an attempt to stop the sisters when they emerge in present day Salem. Creature specialist and regular Guillermo del Toro collaborator Doug Jones play a zombified ex-boyfriend of Midler's character.

Grid S1 (7 September)
One of several South Korean series made under the Disney+ banner, Grid follows a team of investigators on the trail of the mysterious figure Ghost. Having previously created the titular system to save humanity from climate disaster, he's now embroiled in a murder.
Cars on the Road S1 (8 September)
Pixar's hugely popular Cars franchise is back on the small screen, with this road trip series. Owen Wilson returns to voice Lightning McQueen alongside Larry the Cable Guy as Mater, with the characters travelling to meet Mater's sister and encountering plenty of new faces along the way.
Epic Adventures with Bertie Gregory S1 (8 September)
This National Geographic documentary follows nature filmmaker Bertie Gregory as he takes his camera with him on an intrepid journey to some of the most inhospitable and secret places on Earth.
Growing Up S1 (8 September)
The brainchild of Captain Marvel star Brie Larson, this 10-part series explores the challenges of adolescence. Each episode focuses on a different young person as they reveal their childhood experiences, helped by dramatic re-enactments.
Mike (8 September)
Jamie Foxx has been speaking openly about his training to portray controversial boxer Mike Tyson in a future biopic. But, for now, it's Moonlight standout Trevante Rhodes putting on the boxing gloves for this eight-part drama. It was made without input from Tyson and, perhaps as a result, doesn't pull punches in discussing his 1992 rape conviction and numerous other darker elements of the star's story.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: A Jedi's Return (8 September)
In the wake of the success of Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi, this documentary special explores the making of the show and the process which led to Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen returning to roles they last played more than 15 years ago.
The Simpsons: Welcome to the Club (8 September)
The latest in the Disney+ series of shorts based in the world of The Simpsons, this tale follows Lisa as she shifts from wanting to become a princess to deciding being bad might be more fun.
Tierra Incógnita S1 (8 September)
Pedro Maurizi leads the cast of this Latin American series as a teenage boy who decides to flee the home of his grandparents in order to try to get answers about the disappearance of his parents years earlier. The investigation leads him to the titular horror theme park.
Wedding Season S1 (8 September)
Earlier this year, Oliver Lyttelton created BBC comedy Cheaters and he's back again with a twist on the romantic comedy in Wedding Season. Katie (Rosa Salazar) and Stefan (Gavin Drea) find themselves experiencing a whirlwind romance as they attend a string of summer weddings, only for things to go sour when a horrifying crime is perpetrated — and they're both suspects.
Maggie S1 (14 September)
Based on a short film, this 13-episode sitcom follows the travails of the titular psychic (Rebecca Rittenhouse), who repeatedly sees visions of her own future.
Andor S1 (first three episodes on 21 September, then weekly)
Cassian Andor made a heck of an impression before he was summarily bumped off at the climax of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. So much so that Diego Luna has been given the chance to delve into the character's back story as a Rebel figure in 12-part Star Wars series Andor. Stellan Skarsgård and Adria Arjona are among the new faces, while memorable characters including Mon Mothma (Genevieve O'Reilly) and Saw Gerrera (Forest Whitaker) return to the fold.

With plenty of Star Wars series still in the pipeline, Andor is a neat way to expand the world of the galaxy far, far away during the era of Imperial control.
Rookie Cops S1 (21 September)
Another Korean series, this drama follows a group of recruits at the elite Korean National Police University, battling to justify their positions at such an exclusive policing college.
Super/Natural (21 September)
With James Cameron as a executive producer and Benedict Cumberbatch lending his soothing tones to the narration, Super/Natural has all of the ingredients for a great nature show. Utilising state of the art camera techniques, the documentary takes the audience into the unique adaptations and skills of creatures from all over the world.
The Kardashians S2 (weekly from 22 September)
The first family of reality TV are back, with the all-access cameras once again trained on the clan as they wade through the world of celebrity.
Reasonable Doubt S1 (27 September)
This legal drama follows a high-powered defence attorney in Los Angeles, trying to hold her life together and win a complex murder case at the same time.
The Old Man S1 (weekly from 28 September)
Based on a thriller novel by Thomas Perry, The Old Man centres on a retired CIA agent played by Jeff Bridges, who is trying to live an existence far away from the dangers of his past life. Of course, things don't stay quiet for long and he's soon defending himself against an assassin and the wide-ranging impact of his past actions.
