Does the Blade Runner 2049 trailer drop a huge spoiler?
The ‘Blade Runner 2049’ trailer emerged from the future yesterday, to much quite justified excitement from fans. It is ace.
But hang on… did it just drop a massive, massive spoiler?
There are, as one might imagine, possible spoilers ahead.
Thanks to the eagle-eyed trailer analysts over at Birth. Movies. Death., a theory about Ryan Gosling’s character Officer K has emerged.
It centres on those few frames towards the end, in which what you’d expect to be a replicant bursts through a wall in Harrison Ford’s wall in his apartment. That’s some pretty impressive strength otherwise. That, or walls are much flimsier in the future.
But could that actually be Ryan Gosling? The other scenes in the apartment would suggest that it probably is – the lighting, that he appears to be wearing that same jacket, that he’s battered and bruised from, perhaps, running through a wall.
So does this mean Gosling is a replicant? It wouldn’t be the first time that twist has been thrown in.
Officer K does have something of an anonymous, name-you-might-give-a-robot-policeman ring to it, don’t you think?
Are we in for another of those twist-ruining trailer situations – like when one of the teasers for ‘Terminator Genisys’ casually slung in the fact that Jason Clarke’s John Connor is half robot?
Perhaps not… this is only a trailer, but that final remark from Ana de Armas’ character Joi (‘I always told you, you’re special’) has got us thinking too.
Check the whole clip out again below…
Whatever the lowdown on Officer K is, we’ll have to wait until October 6 to find out.
