Two haunting new posters for Blade Runner 2049
It’s fair to anticipate that ‘Blade Runner 2049’ will be a visually arresting piece of filmmaking – and these two new posters are certainly not about to make us suspect otherwise.
The film from director Denis Villeneuve (‘Arrival’) is the long-awaited follow-up to Ridley Scott’s beloved 1982 science fiction thriller, which – though a critical and commercial failure on release – has long since been recognised as a classic.
Harrison Ford, having already reprised his iconic roles of Indiana Jones and Han Solo in recent years (with a fifth turn as Indy in the offing), returns to the role of Deckard, an LAPD replicant hunter in the 2019-set original (it seemed so far away at the time).
According to the new official synopsis, “Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos.
“K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years.”
While we’ve still got a few months to wait until the sequel finally arrives, fans may be interested to know that a live Q&A is scheduled with Ford, Gosling and Villeneuve on the official ‘Blade Runner’ Facebook page. This will kick off at 5pm BST on Monday, 8 May.
While Ridley Scott did not return as director (having been too busy with the upcoming ‘Alien: Covenant,’ which has its UK premiere this evening), he’s still on board as executive producer, and original ‘Blade Runner’ screenwriter Hampton Fancher has co-written the sequel with Michael Green.
The supporting cast includes Ana de Armas, Robin Wright, Jared Leto, Dave Bautista, Barkhad Abdi, Lennie James, Mackenzie Davis, Sylvia Hoeks, and Ford’s original ‘Blade Runner’ co-star Edward James Olmos.
‘Blade Runner 2049’ opens in UK cinemas on 6 October.
