Ben Affleck To Direct & Star In Agatha Christie Adaptation, Witness For The Prosecution

Ben Affleck is clearly not letting his ongoing Batman duties put a stop to his directorial career, as he looks set to helm ‘Witness For The Prosecution’ for 20th Century Fox.

According to Deadline, the 44 year-old actor and filmmaker is in talks to both direct and play the lead in the big screen adaptation of Agatha Christie’s short story.

The tale centres on “a lawyer defending a client in a murder trial that has surprise after surprise.” Affleck will also produce along with Matt Damon and Jennifer Todd, whilst Christopher Keyser will pen the screenplay.

Tyrone Power and Marlene Dietrich previously starred in a big screen take on the story for director Billy Wilder in 1957. It seems there’s a bit of an Agatha Christie revival in Hollywood right now, as Kenneth Branagh is also set to direct and star in a new take on ‘Murder on the Orient Express.’

Currently shooting ‘Justice League,’ Affleck will likely make ‘Witness For The Prosecution’ prior to his in-development ‘Batman’ solo movie. His next directorial effort, ‘Live By Night,’ opens in UK cinemas on 13 January 2017.
