Here’s what we know so far:
Avengers: Infinity War started filming today
It’s official – ‘Avengers 3’ is in production. This was confirmed by the folks at Variety, who revealed that, despite the film’s immediate start date, both Jeremy Renner and Elizabeth Olsen were both without a script.
Adding fuel to the fire, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ star Dave Bautista revealed that he was also without his script even though he was due to begin shooting today. That’s right, Drax the Destroyer was there for day one of filming.
But who else is in the movie?
Most of the Avengers are confirmed
It wouldn’t be an ‘Avengers’ movie without the Avengers… and it looks as though our original four heroes – Iron Man, Captain America, Thor and the Hulk – will all be in the movie. In fact, there’s plenty of other heroes joining the party, too.
Here’s who’s confirmed so far:
Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr)
Captain America (Chris Evans)
Thor (Chris Hemsworth)
Hulk (Mark Ruffalo)
Spider-Man (Tom Holland)
Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch)
Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman)
The Falcon (Anthony Mackie)
Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan)
The Vision (Paul Bettany)
Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen)
Star-Lord (Chris Pratt)
Gamora (Zoe Saldana)
Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista)
Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper)
Groot (Vin Diesel)
Nebula (Karen Gillan)
Dr Erik Selvig (Stellan Skarsgård)
Thanos (Josh Brolin)
As you can seem it’s a pretty long list so far and these are just the ones we know are confirmed. There are plenty of supporting characters who may or may not be in the movie, not to mention the likes of Ant-Man and Black Widow who are yet to be confirmed, but will probably appear.
The most expensive movie ever made?
It looks as though ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ may already be setting records… but not at the box office. According to a report by the Daily Record, the upcoming ‘Avengers’ sequel could be the most expensive movie ever made – with a colossal budget of $400 million.
Why is it so expensive?
Well, the enormous cast list is certainly going to come at a price, especially given the high calibre of its stars. The likes of Robert Downey Jr and Chris Evans will no doubt demand a hefty wage. But that’s not the only overhead ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ has to worry about.
Apparently, ‘Infinity War’ will be one of the first Hollywood blockbusters to shoot entirely with the new IMAX 2D digital camera. The custom version of Arri’s Alexa 65, was used to great effect in ‘The Revenant’, and even gave us 15 minutes of footage in ‘Captain America: Civil War’… but now it’s going to be used to film ‘Infinity War’ in its entirety. And I guess it won’t come cheap.
Still, IMAX is going to be the format everyone will want to see the film in… and that’ll sure help those box office figures when the film is released. But for now, it’s a pretty hefty cost.
What’s Avengers: Infinity War all about?
It’s no secret that Marvel has building towards ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ for a long time. Since the very beginning of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we’ve seen numerous powerful objects (known as Infinity Stones) as pivotal objects in various movies. There’s the Tesseract in ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’ as well as the Aether in ‘Thor: The Dark World’.
There are six in total… and they’re all being tracked by one man – Thanos.
He’s the big, bad villain of the Marvel universe, and we’ve seen him already in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’. His mission? To track down the Infinity Stones he once possessed and use them to create the Infinity Gauntlet – an all-powerful glove which grants its wielder total control of all reality. It’s a story we’ve seen play out already in the ‘Infinity Gauntlet’ comic books.
But how will it go down on the big screen? We’ll have to wait and see.
‘Avengers: Infinity War’ heads to cinemas on 27 April 2018.
