'Avatar 2’s' Kate Winslet says James Cameron has changed a lot since 'Titanic'

Kate Winslet has opened up about reuniting with James Cameron on Avatar 2, insisting that the legendary director is much “calmer” than he was during production on Titanic.

In a recent interview with entertainment website Collider, the Academy Award-winning actress admitted that it was no secret that Titanic “was a very difficult shoot,” which was stressful and tough for everyone involved.

Winslet said that, 23 years after the release of Titanic, she is now able to appreciate and respect what Cameron achieved with the nautical blockbuster, especially since he was under tremendous pressure, while working “six-day weeks, for a seven and a half month shoot, four and a half months of which were night.”

Things were much different on the set of the Avatar sequels, insisted Winslet.

Winslet has also given Cameron credit for inventing a new way of filming on Avatar, adding that “there’s a level of confidence that has grounded him in a much more comfortable place, just for him.”

Winslet also took this opportunity to discuss her collaboration with Cameron on the Avatar sequels, calling the process brilliant while noting how he gave all the actors involved the time and room to “just meander over a scene” when it didn’t “feel like it fit quite right.”

At the moment, we’re still not exactly sure how many of the Avatar sequels Winslet’s character will appear in, although she has already revealed that she had to learn free-diving for the film, and she can now hold her breath underwater for seven minutes, too.

We’ll get to see the results of all her hard-work when Avatar 2 is finally released on December 16, 2022.
