Andrew Lincoln agrees he played a 'weird stalker guy' in Love Actually

Looking back, Andrew Lincoln’s Mark from ‘Love Actually’ was a bit creepy.

Perhaps it was all clouded by the ‘love’ that was indeed ‘all around’, but in hindsight, yep, it was creepy alright.

Pleasingly, the ‘Walking Dead’ star agrees.

“In one of the most romantic movies of all time, I got to play the only guy who doesn’t get the girl,” he told Entertainment Weekly, as part of a special reunion feature around director Richard Curtis’s movie.

“The story is set up like a prism looking at all the different qualities of love. Mine was unrequited. So I got to be this weird stalker guy.”

Lincoln’s sad case Mark spent his time pining after Keira Knightley’s Juliet, but pretends he doesn’t like her because she’s getting married to Chiwetel Ejiofor, and to admit his feelings would be too painful.

So instead, he films with oddly obsessive close-ups while making their wedding video, then turns up at their house with a series of cue cards professing his love for her.

Standard courtship behaviour.

“My big scene in the doorway felt so easy,” he went on. “I just had to hold cards and be in love with Keira Knightley. And that was my own handwriting on the cards, thank you for noticing.

“But I kept saying to Richard, ‘Are you sure I’m not going to come off as a creepy stalker?’”

Curtis apparently told him not to worry about such things, and so he didn’t.

“Retroactively, I’m aware that Andrew’s role was on the edge. But I think because Andrew was so openhearted and guileless, we knew we’d get away with it,” he added.

“I think it was decided that I looked quite innocent. I didn’t have facial hair or wrinkles back then — and I wasn’t starring on a zombie TV show. I didn’t look as, well, creepy as I do now.”
