Where Memphis football landed in college football polls after Week 7 win over USF
Memphis football is back in the college football polls — sort of.
The Tigers (5-1, 1-1 American Athletic Conference) beat South Florida 21-3 on Saturday afternoon in a game that was rescheduled and moved from Tampa to Orlando because of Hurricane Milton. Memphis received four votes in the US LBM Coaches Poll, the first time the Tigers received any votes in the poll since they fell out of the rankings after losing to Navy on Sept. 21.
Memphis did not receive any votes in the AP Poll.
Memphis is still far from cracking the top 25 in the coaches poll. It is essentially 37th in the poll, behind a slew of Group of Five teams. Boise State (No. 19) and Army (No. 24) are ranked, while Navy, UNLV and Liberty all received more votes than Memphis did. James Madison (3) and Tulane (2) also received votes.
Still, it was an encouraging sign for the Tigers, who still have a shot at the AAC title and the College Football Playoff if things break right. They had climbed as high as No. 22 in the coaches poll before falling out after the 56-44 loss to the Midshipmen.
In the AP Poll, Boise State (No. 15), Army (No. 23) and Navy (No. 25) were ranked among Group of Five teams.
Memphis hosts North Texas (5-1, 2-0) on Saturday (6:30 p.m. CT, ESPNU) at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium.
