Where Memphis football landed in college football polls after Week 2

For the first time since 2020, Memphis football is a ranked team.

The Tigers checked in at No. 25 in the US LBM Coaches Poll, which was released Sunday afternoon. That was a marked improvement from last week, when they were essentially No. 28.

Memphis continued as the highest-ranked Group of Five team — now the only ranked such team — and received 85 votes in the poll.

The AP Poll was a different story. Memphis received 38 votes, which left the Tigers where they were last week: No. 30. That was behind Boise State, which received 77 votes, and Northern Illinois, which upset Notre Dame on Saturday and cracked the AP rankings at No. 25.

The Tigers (2-0) are coming off back-to-back blowout wins at home. They shut out North Alabama 40-0 in the season opener, followed by a 38-17 win over Troy on Saturday at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium. The Tigers' defense has been the top storyline through the first two weeks of the season, but the competition is about to get tougher.

Memphis will head on the road for the first time this season when it faces Florida State (0-2) on Saturday (11 a.m. CT, ESPN) in Tallahassee. Though the Seminoles have had a rough start to the season, they're still favored over the Tigers.
