Warriors 'strongest' offer for Lauri Markkanen revealed
The Golden State Warriors have pursued a Lauri Markkanen deal throughout the summer. However, it would appear that the All-Star big man is set to sign a contract extension with the Utah Jazz after their front office reportedly played hardball during negotiations.
Utah is rumored to have requested a deal that included Brandin Podziemski and/or Jonathan Kuminga, who project to be long-term pieces to the Warriors' future. In a recent article from The Athletic's Tony Jones, Shams Charania and Anthony Slater, Golden State's final trade proposal for Markkanen was discussed.
"The Warriors made the most aggressive offer, centered around Moses Moody, multiple first-round picks, pick swaps and second-rounders, team sources from both sides said. Utah wanted Brandin Podziemski in any theoretical deal," The trio reported. "The Warriors were protective of Podziemski in the Markkanen conversation and a few other leaguewide trade proposals this summer, league sources said."
It will be interesting to see whether Moses Moody remains on Golden State's roster moving forward. He has often found himself on the outside of the rotation. The fact he's been floated in a trade conversation that has now become public could force the Warriors' hand.
Nevertheless, Golden State appears committed to it's two-timeline approach, as shown by their instance on retaining both Podziemski and Kuminga. As such, it's logical to expect both young talents to receive a considerable uptick in both role and playing time next season.
