USA vs Serbia basketball: LeBron James leads USA to win in 2024 Paris Olympics opener

The United States men's basketball team will face Serbia in a group phase game of the 2024 Paris Olympics on Sunday in Villeneuve-d'Ascq, France.

Team USA went 5-0 in its USA Basketball Showcase exhibition games, and it's now in search of its fifth straight Olympic gold medal. This is the first of its three Group C games.

Here's what you need to know:

FINAL: USA 110, Serbia 84

Team USA finished strong in the fourth quarter to earn a 110-84 victory.

James led the United States with 21 points, nine assists and seven rebounds, while Durant added 23 points. Jokic led Serbia with 20 points, eight assists and five rebounds.

Team USA will continue Group C play with a game against South Sudan at 2 p.m. CT Wednesday. South Sudan earned a 90-79 win over Puerto Rico on Sunday.

End third quarter: USA 84, Serbia 65

James continued his strong play in the third quarter. The Los Angeles Lakers forward scored six points, bringing his total to 18 on 8-for-9 shooting from the floor.

Halftime: USA 58, Serbia 49

Team USA added to its lead thanks in large part to Durant, who scored a game-high 21 points in the first half on 8-for-8 shooting from the floor (5 for 5 from deep).

James also recorded in 12 points and five assists for the United States. Jokic led Serbia with 12 points and four assists.

End first quarter: USA 25, Serbia 20

Serbia began the game with a 10-2 run, and Avramovic scored six of those points.

But Team USA closed out the quarter with an 11-0 run to take a 25-20 lead. Durant provided a spark off the bench by scoring six points on 2-for-2 shooting from deep.

USA's starters will be Stephen Curry, Jrue Holiday, Devin Booker, LeBron James and Joel Embiid.

Serbia's starters will be Aleksa Avramovic, Bogdan Bogdanovic, Ognjen Dobric, Filip Petrusev and Nikola Jokic.

Kevin Durant is available for USA vs Serbia

Team USA announced that Kevin Durant is available for Sunday's game. The Phoenix forward missed all five of the USA Basketball Showcase exhibition games due to a calf injury.

Durant will come off the bench, per The Athletic's Shams Charania.
