Updating injuries to Georgia football offensive guards Tate Ratledge and Micah Morris
Georgia football is beat up on the offensive line at right guard.
Tate Ratledge, coming off TightRope surgery for a high ankle sprain, returned in a reserve role against Florida and started against Ole Miss Saturday but struggled against the Rebels in the 28-10 loss.
Micah Morris, who has started five games at the position, did not play at all after sustaining a leg injury a week earlier.
So what’s their status ahead of Saturday’s game against No. 4 Tennessee?
"If a guy is healthy enough to practice, he practices," Georgia coach Kirby Smart Smart said Monday when talking about the offensive line. "If he's not, then he doesn't. So I go with the recommendation of this training staff. Those kids want to practice. They want to go out there and do it. Sometimes they can. Sometimes they can do certain things, they can't do others."
Ratledge played just 17 snaps against Ole Miss, according to Pro Football Focus. He gave up a sack on Georgia’s fourth offensive series.
Georgia moved right tackle Xavier Truss to right guard during the game and backup center Drew Bobo also took snaps at the position. Monroe Freeling stepped in for Truss at right tackle and also played some left tackle where Earnest Greene gave up two sacks.
Smart said Monday Greene has been battling shoulder “burners" and was limited in practice last week.
Smart said Ratledge did not practice last week.
“We thought he'd be able to go like he did against Florida,” Smart said after the game. “He was not able to take many reps, but we thought he'd be able to go in the game just based off of experience. He struggled, that foot was still not completely healed, and he's out there giving us all he can. So that made it a little harder. Micah is still dealing with injury, too, from the Florida game.”
