Updating Illinois Fighting Illini rankings in coaches, AP Top 25 polls after Nebraska win

Illinois rankings update

The Illinois football team is ranked No. 21 in the latest US LBM Coaches Poll on Sunday, just two days after the Fighting Illini defeated Nebraska 31-24 in the Big Ten Conference opener. Illinois entered the coaches' poll for the first time this season after placing first among teams with a vote last week.

The Illini (4-0) are ranked No. 19 in The Associated Press Top 25, released Sunday, the program's highest ranking since reaching No. 14 in 2022. They moved up five spots from No. 24.

Illinois travels this week to No. 8 Penn State (3-0) for another Big Ten showdown, this time in Happy Valley. The game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Beaver Stadium in State College, Pennsylvania. The game is set to broadcast on NBC.
