Updating Clemson rankings in college football polls after win against App State in Week 2

CLEMSON — Clemson football rose from No. 22 to No. 20 in the Week 3 US LBM Coaches Poll released on Sunday.

The Tigers (1-1) received 326 points and no first-place votes. They were the No. 2-ranked ACC team, finishing behind Miami, which was No. 12 with 798 points.

Clemson went up in the polls after routing Appalachian State 66-20 on Saturday at Memorial Stadium.

One other ACC school made the Top 25: Louisville (288) at No. 21.

ACC teams that did not make the Top 25 but received votes were Boston College (36 points, 27th on poll), Syracuse (33, 28th), North Carolina State (10, 37th), North Carolina (5, 41st), California (5, 42nd) and Pittsburgh (2, 44th).

Georgia remained at No. 1 in the poll, earning 1,346 points and 50 first-place votes. Ohio State was No. 2 with 1,281 points and three first-place votes, while No. 3 Texas earned one first-place vote.

The weekly poll is voted on by a panel of coaches chosen by random draw. Voters submit a Top 25 with a first-place vote worth 25 points, second place worth 24, and so on down to one point for 25th, according to USA TODAY Sports.

Clemson rankings update

In the AP poll, Clemson went from No. 25 to No. 22, receiving 292 points. It sits behind Miami (No. 10, 1,073 points) and Louisville (No. 19, 383) in the conference. Boston College also made the rankings at No. 24 with 116 points.

ACC teams that did not make the Top 25 but received votes were Syracuse (63 points, 29th on poll), North Carolina (7, 39th) and California (3, 40th).

Georgia stayed at No. 1 in the AP poll too, earning 1,566 points and 54 first-place votes. Texas rose to No. 2 with four first-place votes, while Ohio State fell to No. 3 but received five first-place votes.
