Updating Clemson ranking in college football polls after victory vs Virginia in Week 8

CLEMSON — Clemson football remained at No. 9 in the US LBM Coaches Poll released Sunday.

The Tigers (6-1, 5-0 ACC) received 907 points and did not receive any first-place votes. They are the second-ranked ACC team, finishing behind Miami, which is No. 5 with 1,087 points.

Clemson beat Virginia 48-31 Saturday in its last game of October. It enters its final open week before returning to host Louisville (4-3, 2-2) on Nov. 2 at Memorial Stadium.

Two other ACC schools made the top 25: Pittsburgh (359 points) at No. 20 and SMU (249) at No. 22.

ACC teams that did not make the coaches top 25 poll, but received votes were Syracuse (27 points) and Duke (7).

Oregon rose to No. 1 in the poll, earning 1,323 points and 51 first-place votes, and Georgia moved up to No. 2 with 1,238 points and two first-place votes.

The weekly poll is voted on by a panel of coaches chosen by random draw. Voters submit a top 25 with a first-place vote worth 25 points, second place worth 24, and so on down to one point for 25th, according to USA TODAY Sports.

Clemson rankings update

In the AP poll, Clemson went from No. 10 to No. 9, receiving 984 points. It sits behind Miami (No. 6, 1,242 points) in the conference and is ahead of Pittsburgh (No. 19, 396) and SMU (No. 22, 313).

ACC teams that did not make the AP Top 25 but received votes were Syracuse (15 points) and Duke (2).

Oregon rose to No. 1 in the AP poll, earning 1,523 points and 59 first-place votes. Georgia moved up to No. 2, with two first-place votes.
