Updating Clemson ranking in college football polls after blowout win vs Stanford in Week 5

CLEMSON — Clemson football rose from No. 15 to No. 14 in the US LBM Coaches Poll released on Sunday.

The Tigers (3-1, 2-0 ACC) received 671 points and did not receive any first-place votes. They are the second-ranked ACC team, finishing behind Miami, which is No. 8 with 981 points.

Clemson went up in the polls after dominating Stanford on Saturday, winning 40-14 in its second ACC game. It returns to action Saturday (7 p.m. ET, ESPN) against Florida State (1-4, 1-3) at Doak Campbell Stadium.

One other ACC school made the top 25: Louisville (197 points) at No. 22.

ACC teams that did not make the coaches top 25 poll, but received votes were Pittsburgh (51 points), Duke (22 points), SMU (14 points) and Boston College (6 points).

Texas rose to No. 1 in the poll, earning 1,339 points and 29 first-place votes. Alabama moved up to No. 2 with 1,330 points and 19 first-place votes, while No. 3 Ohio State earned seven first-place votes.

The weekly poll is voted on by a panel of coaches chosen by random draw. Voters submit a top 25 with a first-place vote worth 25 points, second place worth 24, and so on down to one point for 25th, according to USA TODAY Sports.

Clemson rankings update

In the AP poll, Clemson went from No. 17 to No. 15, receiving 694 points. It sits behind Miami (No. 8, 1,170 points) in the conference and is ahead of Louisville (No. 22, 223)

ACC teams that did not make the AP Top 25 but received votes were Pittsburgh (42 points, 27th on poll), Boston College (18, 29th) and SMU (4, 37th).

Alabama rose to No. 1 in the AP poll, earning 1,549 points and 40 first-place votes. Texas dropped to No. 2 with 19 first-place votes, while Ohio State remained at No. 3 with four first-place votes.
