Tyrese Haliburton named to Team USA selection pool for 2024 Olympics in Paris

INDIANAPOLIS -- Pacers All-Star point guard Tyrese Haliburton was one of 41 players named Tuesday to the player selection pool for the Team USA Senior Men's Basketball team for the Paris Olympics.

Haliburton will miss the next three games for the Pacers with a strained left hamstring, but he's leading the team with 23.6 points per game and leading the NBA in assists with 12.6 per game. He also led all Eastern Conference guards in fan votes for the All-Star Game, and will likely be named a starter when those are released on Thursday.

Haliburton played for Team USA this summer in the FIBA World Cup, operating as the backup point guard. He averaged 8.6 points and 5.6 assists per game and shot 51.1% from the floor and 47.2% from 3-point range, helping the team finish fourth in the event.

There are just 12 roster spots to be had among the 41 players in the pool, and it will not be an easy team to make. Reigning MVP Joel Embiid, a native of Cameroon, earned his U.S. citizenship in 2022 and is now eligible to play on the team. He is also on the list.
