Will Tua Tagovailoa participate in Miami Dolphins training camp practices? Well, Tua is in the building.

MIAMI GARDENS — Miami Dolphins players don't expect Tua Tagovailoa to pull a Jordan Love.

Love, the Packers' young upstart gunslinger, will sit out Packers training camp practices until a new contract extension is completed.

But on Tuesday, Dolphins players said Tua was already in their building.

And it sounds like they fully expect Tua to practice, when training camp practices open Wednesday.

"I believe he will," Dolphins star receiver Tyreek Hill said. "And here's why. I believe he will practice because he's very competitive. He will not tell you that, but he's very competitive and he's a guy that doesn't like to fall too far behind. He understands that we have a really good team. And he doesn't want to miss his window. Like I say, we've got a great offense. You know, our defense is real good. It's looking real good this year, man. So he understands all of that. So I believe he's going to practice."

Tua Tagovailoa contract: no holdout expected

In the spring, Tua sat out some drills to make a point. That was after a discussion and agreement between Tua and coach Mike McDaniel.

So, could Tua skip some of the periods this summer? Well, sure, it's possible.

"That's under his discretion and his (agency)," Dolphins running back Raheem Mostert said. "I can't really speak on that just because I'm not, you know, I'm his teammate and I'm one of his brothers, you know, we could have a conversation about it, but all in all that's up to his, you know, his team and his priorities are something that is of importance in that aspect. I think that it could be the right move and guys in the locker room definitely understand that. Tua is Tua and he's always putting the team first. That's how I see it and that's how everybody in the locker room sees it."

Tua Tagovailoa contract extension: Will it top $50 million a season?

Recently, NFL insider Adam Schefter said a deal is not particularly close. But Mostert believes Tua should be paid.

"Tua is very well deserving of the opportunity to get a contract extension," Mostert said. "He's worked his tail off, especially since I've started playing with him. I've seen nothing but growth and the leadership that he portrays, not only for the team, but for the organization, is definitely top notch. One of the best, if not the best, leader in the locker room and for the organization. So with that being said, I truly believe that he deserves everything that he has come in his way, plus more. And I'm just excited for him. It's going to be a great opportunity."

It seems obvious Tua's deal would be around $50 million per season. But due to Tua's injury history, the percentage of money or total guaranteed money offered by the Dolphins could be a sticking point.

Dolphins receiver Jaylen Waddle, who is close to Tua as they've played together at Alabama and the NFL, indicated that the quarterback is in for this summer.

"Yeah, I chatted up with him a little earlier today," Waddle said. "Pretty regular. We've seen each other like two days ago. But nothing crazy ... Yeah, man, he's going to be here. He likes to be around the team, the guys, and he's going to be out there practicing, playing, doing whatever."

Waddle thinks Tua is mentally equipped for this contract issue.

"I don't think it's going to be a distraction," Waddle said.

Hill says Tua is in a good place.

"Oh man, he's in great spirits," Hill said. "Obviously I can't speak on his part about the contract situation because that's his business, his personal business and as his teammate, as his brother, I try to stay out of that. But as far as how he feels, as far as mental health standpoint, he feels amazing. He's very excited to be back in the building with all of the guys. So it's great to see him out there, man, still coming into work, still about his business, without having the deal done. And it's just been awesome, man, just having him around, just his presence means a lot to a lot of the guys, especially me."
