These are the Top 5 Miami Dolphins training camp storylines

The Miami Dolphins open their third training camp under coach Mike McDaniel with practices Wednesday, Thursday and Friday in Miami Gardens.

The first Dolphins training camp practice open to the public, with tickets, is Sunday, July 28.

We'll be at Baptist Health Training Complex for you at all training camp practices.

Miami will practice at Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday, Aug. 3.

The Dolphins will have joint practices with the Falcons and Commanders on Aug. 6, 7 and 15.

There are many intriguing storylines at Dolphins training camp.

What's up with Tua Tagovailoa's contract?

If Tua's contract extension with the Dolphins is not done before practice begins, does the quarterback fully participate in important summer drills?

Tua, McDaniel and the Dolphins worked out an agreement in the spring that allowed the quarterback to make a point about his contract by skipping some drills.

Perhaps if Tua and Miami truly are close on the deal, the quarterback is a full participant.

Tua has said the market is the market and the Dolphins have made it clear they view Tua as their long-term quarterback. Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence signed a five-year, $275 million contract extension in June, giving him an annual salary of $55 million.

There could very well be some tension in the air if pen has not met paper for Tua.

Are rookies Jaylen Wright and Chop Robinson ready to roll?

McDaniel is not afraid to utilize a rookie weapon, as we saw with running back De'Von Achane in 2023.

Running back Jaylen Wright is scintillating and exhilarating. We'll just have to see how quickly he picks up some of the many intricacies of Miami's offense.

Pass rushers Bradley Chubb and Jaelan Phillips are not ready to practice as they return from knee and Achilles injuries.

This opens up a door for rookies Chop Robinson and Mo Kamara to prove they're ready to contribute in Week 1.

Which wide receivers miss the cut?

We don't need to see much from Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle this summer.

But how much does Odell Beckham Jr. prove he has left?

Rookie Tahj Washington opens camp on the physically unable to perform list. Perhaps that opens a bigger crack for fellow rookie receiver Malik Washington.

This is a very important camp for Erik Ezukanma, who returns from a neck injury and wants to show he belongs as a third down, red zone, run-game and blocking threat.

It will be interesting to see how Miami and return specialist Braxton Berrios practice special teams, with new kickoff rules going in.

What does Miami have with Kendall Fuller and CBs?

With Pro Bowl cornerback Xavien Howard off Miami's roster for the first time since 2015, all eyes will be on newcomer Kendall Fuller, who should start opposite Jalen Ramsey.

Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle and Odell Beckham Jr. vs. Jalen Ramsey and Kendall Fuller should be fireworks.

How much does Miami want to move Ramsey around in 2024?

How much better do third corner Kader Kohou and sophomore Cam Smith look in 2024?

And how good do newcomer safeties Jordan Poyer and Marcus Maye look?

The 11-on-11s and 7-on-7s and some individual drills should be great fun.

Anthony Weaver's defense vs. McDaniel's offense?

Bring it on.

McDaniel's group has a head start, of course.

But Weaver brings youthful energy and enthusiasm and a defense built on the template of the very successful Baltimore Ravens.

Who wouldn't want their defense to emulate the Ravens?

A problem is that Miami must hope the group it has assembled can perform as well as the 2023 group that included departed Howard, Christian Wilkins, Andrew Van Ginkel, Jerome Baker, Emmanuel Ogbah, Raekwon Davis, DeShon Elliott and Brandon Jones.

Let's see if Miami really is better off without departed defensive coordinator Vic Fangio.
